WEEK 13 REFLECTIONS FROM THE #NEXTERNSHIP INTERNS

Every week we will post a quick roundup of lessons learned during this past week's work by each of our #Nexternship interns. We hope that even though YOU are not able to be Jenny's intern, you can learn through our fearless team! Every week, they answer three of the same questions. SOAK IN THE GOODNESS. Read more about them here.

  1. What made you feel uncomfortable this week and why? What can you do differently next time, if anything?
Everything these past few weeks has been wonderful! I love that I'm always up and about and learning new things. Something that changes with each shoot is learning how to work with different producers. Everybody has their preferences, and they are often times different than your own! I'm a very detail-oriented and organized person so I like to know what I am doing in advance. Some producers like to wing it, so as their shoot support I must wing it until they call the shots. This can make me feel uncomfortable because it's outside my comfort zone. I keep telling myself that it's going to work out in the end as long as I keep checking in with the producer! I just stay on my toes and make sure I'm doing everything I can to ensure a smooth shoot.

  2. I didn’t know that I didn’t know…
I feel like I already knew this but I get a new feeling of realization every time I work with different lights. Lights can really make or break your set, so it's important to understand how lights can affect your background.

  3. What else did you learn this week that will be helpful to other people who are interested in pursuing the entertainment industry?
Working with talent can be difficult. Sometimes you will have to bite your tongue to keep a good relation because -- for the hundredth time -- it's about who you know.

  1. What made you feel uncomfortable this week and why? What can you do differently next time, if anything?
I fulfilled my new job resolution of joining a gym! All the stress of uncertainty (and a long history of a sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle) have made it easy for me to put of being physically active, but now that I have a consistent schedule (and the money to afford a gym membership) there's no excuses! I did feel uncomfortable at the gym at first. I'm very self conscious about my body and my physical ability - but it helped to see that this gym had a lot of different people of various ages, sizes, and fitness levels. I just have to remember that I'm doing this for me and that nobody really cares what I'm doing there because they are also there for themselves.

  2. I didn’t know that I didn’t know…
That bosses were supposed to treat you well and jobs should have benefits and decent hours? Like ... this is a whole new world for me. Sometimes I still act like I'm at a job that doesn't care about me, but then my boss starts telling me "you don't have to do that extra ass thing, cuz it's not part of your duties" and I'm speechless.

  3. What else did you learn this week that will be helpful to other people who are interested in pursuing the entertainment industry?
There's so much paperwork. SO MUCH PAPERWORK. Like....why do we need to keep 500 releases from people who worked on a production from 7, 8, 9, 10 etc... years ago? Just in case.
